CHARLES STURT THURGOONA CAMPUS
NEW WAYS OF LIVING IN AN OLD LAND
The Charles Sturt campus in Thurgoona is a big, vivid glimpse of the future.
It is a living, working role model of how we can address universal environmental concerns for global warming, ozone depletion and water pollution, while providing solutions for sustainable living into the future.
The principles applied in creating the campus have put into practice new methods in building design, and low impact, low energy using, environmentally-sensitive management systems and processes.
By combining the attributes of rammed earth walls, natural fibre floor coverings, solar heating, dry composting waste disposal and natural ventilation, the campus provides a practical demonstration of how a major facility can cater for the needs of modern lifestyles in harmony with a responsible use of the local environment.
